Cissbury Barns a stunning barn venue nestles in the heart of the South Downs!
Lets talk about a new venue to the wedding market - Little Thakeham. If you have not had the pleasure to visit this venue you will fall in love with it when you see it.
Little Thakeham is a Grade 1 Listed Venue designed by the renowned architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. The house and grounds are stunning and you have exclusive use to this venue for whole weekend for your wedding. Meaning you have access the night before to prepare for your big day, have exclusive use on the day and get some awe inspiring images in the grounds and within the house. Then you can finish the celebration by having brunch with your closest friends and family.
The house has a stunning main hall which works perfectly for the smaller reception, with the main hall taking up to 60 seated for a traditional wedding breakfast. But do not worry, if you want to have a larger reception you can have a marquee or tipi on one of the formal lawns.

We love a bit of 'theming' here at To Have & To Hire HQ. What a pleasure to be involved in this shoot at Ardingly College, with Harry Potter being one of our favourite themes we were delighted to be involved! We have installed our magical floating candles on several events before, but this was to a different level.
The room at Ardingly was perfect with their long wooden tables and high ceilings. Our stunning gold candelabras worked perfectly and then our magical floating candles added the finishing touch.
Susie coordinated these perfectly with chairs, crockery, cutlery and beautiful purple runners from Co-Ordination Catering Hire.
To add that extra magical touch owls were provided by Sussex Falconry, and wow what a way to finish off the shoot! Creative Spark also added to the shoot with their lighting and smoke machine, all creating a perfect final setup.

Sussex Wed Fest is Sussex's First Wedding Festival, offering an alternative way to plan your day. With over 80 unique exhibitors there will be plenty of choice for everyone. One of the main areas of the day will be the main stage with exhibitors playing all afternoon.
Sunday 4th June 2017 from 12 midday to 5pm

So who out there has been to seen the new Disney adaptation of Beauty & The Beast? I had some family time this week and took my twin girls to see it. All I can say is wow its amazing everything you would want it to be.
The team have done lots of themed weddings before including Disney, Harry Potter, Naval & more. However, are are sure, after this wonderful movie there will be many thinking of a Beauty & Beast themed wedding. So how can you achieve this look?
The most obvious is the red rose, that is featured heavily in the film. You could follow the norm and have a red rose in a clear cloche on each table. Or you could add a little twist to this image like below. If the pebbles were a little rustic why not opt for some diamante sparkles. Be careful here make sure they do not float! You could also loose the water and use water pearls instead to hold the rose in place.
Another choice for centrepieces would be gold candelabras. We have them to hire and you could add the rose element by wrapping rose garlands, or incorporating a flower ring around the base with roses.
Perhaps you wanted to add a little more gold to your table? You could also include a gold charger plate as shown in the above image.
If your venue ceiling is not so grand you can achieve a great look by having a fairy light canopy. Image shown here is our fairy light canopy installed at the lovely Long Furlong Barn with our rustic chandelier. We will shortly have a more glam one if that is the style you are after.
For a table-plan continue the gold theme with our gold mirror and easel. Either this can be written on with chalk-pen or you could have a stationer create these for you.

The dress - well there is only one choice. Alfred Angelo have a Disney range and they have a Belle dress. The local stockist for this is Opulence & Grace Bridal who stock the whole Disney range.

We love a bit of technology at To Have & To Hire. Our inner geek was just exploding when we received a call from the owners of Brookfield Barn asking us to be involved in something amazing.
Brookfield Barn is a stunning barn venue just outside Horsham, finished to an impeccable standard. If you are not yet decided on your venue we would highly recommend you go and have a look.
So we received a call and a schedule like no other. We had the challenge of installing, dismantling and changing the room setup 8 times in one day. With a 30 minute break between each setup we were up for it. Our team and the team at Brookfield worked extremely hard that day and I have to say the results are amazing.
All we can say is WOW! This amazing 3D experience will also be featured on our site shortly.

Decor & Flowers
At To Have & To Hire Weddings love an outside wedding. Even if you opt for DIY we can still help you out with our dry hire service. We can sit with you go through your day and then bring all the elements together so you can dress your day your way.
With an outside wedding you do not have to be rustic,glam also works well. There are some stunning marquees out there that can be transformed into any theme.

Here are some of the items we would recommend hiring for an outside wedding.
Hay bales are a great way to add rustic seating to an outside event, or even to create a chill out area. We can also provide hay bale tables and sofas!
Vintage barrels are a great way to add rustic style to your event. Use them as a quirky bar or a sweetie table with a rustic wooden top, podium bar tables, add flowers to them to create an grand aisle entrance or use half barrels for side tables. Here they are teamed with our cuddle blankets and hay bale sofas.
Giant garden games are great if you have lots of outside space. They also keep your guests entertained whilst you are off having pictures.
Festoon and fairy lights are a great way to add lighting to outside. Create a canopy of lights to welcome your guests, use to light pathways to facilities.
Flowers are an essential part to any wedding from the bridal bouquet to the centrepieces. We love the flowers that are created by the talented Emma at Wild & Green Floristry. Here are some examples of her work.
One of the great advantages of having an outdoor wedding. At most venues you can choose your own caterer. This gives you complete flexibility on what you can have.
Nick and his amazing team can offer a full catering service from a stunning 3 course meal to a rustic hog roast served to the table on platters. Well worth a call!
Justin, Caroline and the team are able to offer a bespoke service for your day. I particularly love their gold horsebox pizza oven!
Having worked with Circa hundreds of times I have to say their attention to detail and food are fabulous.
Something a bit different ....
Why not hire the wonderful girls from Pinks Vintage Ice Creams to turn up to your big day to service ice cream. They offer two options there stunning vintage van or a tricycle!
If coffee is your thing why not get Coffee Camp in for your guests. Great for the evening. I have to say the hot chocolate is amazing!
Another great advantage to having an outdoor event is the bar. You can either opt for a full bar service or do a DIY bar. Having been involved in events using both, they both have their advantages and disadvantages. Personally I think the bar service is the way to go. It takes a lot to organise and it is something that you do not need to worry about. But if you do opt for the DIY service we can offer a cute barrel bar to hire and cool drinks dispensers for welcome drinks.

Outside weddings are becoming more and more popular. Couples are generally wanting more flexibility with their day. They can easily achieve this by doing an outside wedding. Although sometimes this can be mean more work for the couple. Some couples like the opportunity of getting involved but some opt for a wedding planner to organise their day. We have worked and organised many weddings for couples bringing all the elements together. We do offer planning as part of our services, but equally we have worked with some excellent planners and this is who we would recommend:
The I Do's
Some couples want to take it a step further and have a ceremony that is also personalised to them. Legally married even the day before or earlier the same day, they see this personal ceremony as their wedding. This is a non legal blessing or a humanist ceremony can be undertaken by anyone. However if you are struggling with this concept yourself, this is where a celebrant comes in . Like the lovely Claire Bradford from Creating Ceremonies who works with a couple to produce their vows and then becomes the person to officiate the day.
If you opt for this option then you can get married anywhere you so choose. Why not opt for a outside ceremony with hay bales for seating. We have these available to hire at To Have & To Hire.
There are lots of private land owners who hire out their land for events. These are normally hidden gems that offer some level of flexibility. However they are normally very basic and require you to organise and supply the basic amenities such as electricity and toilets. Here are some links to some in sussex:

Marquee, Tipi's & Belle Tents
Gone are the days of having a traditional marquee for your wedding. Now you can go with the more vintage and quirky.
These are a more vintage style marquee with wooden central poles as shown here provided by Tents n Events based in Arundel.
These are stunning structures that consist of hats that are joined together in different formations to create a custom design for your venue. Here are some lovely images from Tentario.
What a great option for your event. These versatile tents can be created into many different shapes. We recommend the great Tentstyle for these tents.
By hiring some land, most landowners allow you and your guests to camp. This makes for a real party atmosphere and carries the celebrations onto the following day. This is where you may consider hiring some Belle Tents. These can be installed and setup for your guests and can be fully furnished, even with real mattresses and wood burners. We would highly recommend Beautiful Belles.

We are definitely seeing a trend in decor starting at the top of your venue. Many couples are opting to add ceiling decor to their decor budgets. This can be achieved in many ways:
Fairy lights are a great way to add sparkle to your venue. If you are after a more rustic look then you can opt for festoon lighting.
Draping can soften a venue, cover an unsightly ceiling or event add to an already beautiful setting. Draping can be installed in many ways and is extremely popular in ceremony areas. If you wanted to add a little sparkle you can add lines of fairy lights behind the draping.
Bunting can be strung inside venues to add a rustic or village fete theme. It is also popular outside for a summer wedding. You can also mix bunting with lanterns, if you like both, why not have it. It is your day.

Why we Love Barn Weddings Decorated with Paper Lanterns
Barn weddings give a bride and groom the opportunity to really put their stamp on their wedding by creating a breathtaking scene for the day, and, no two barns are the same so every barn wedding is truly unique!
Here’s our top three barn weddings dressed with an array of our hanging paper lanterns…
Rivervale Barn, Yateley, Guildford
Warm fairy lights strung across the width of Rivervale Barn add extra light to this open, airy wedding venue and allows a bridal party to incorporate colours including navy blue into their colour scheme without the dark shade being too over powering.
A mixture of navy blue, baby blue and soft cream paper lanterns have been hung between 50 and 100cm apart directly on the fairy light strings. This paper lantern canopy makes the most of the height of the barn and allows the pretty twinkling lights between the lanterns to really come into their own during the darker hours.
An added feature of Rivervale Barn is that you can hold both your ceremony and wedding reception here – decorate your ceremonial areas with sophisticated, elegant ivory and lace lanterns saving the colour for the celebratory side of the barn. Line the aisle with our laser cut birdcages and flickering candle Buttonlites and if celebrating during the summer months replicate this look outside in the grounds.
Upwaltham Barn, Chichester, West Sussex
Sara worked with the bride and groom to create an intimate but relaxed setting to celebrate with friends and family.
In a beautiful rustic barn with exposed beams and brickwork it is important not cover up any of the natural and authentic features. Paper lanterns and cotton bunting are an easy, effective way of adding colour to the room in sensitive way. The earthy tones of the brickwork were reflected in the warmth of the red hanging lanterns with hessian flags in the wedding bunting to complement the wooden surroundings.
Sussex Barn, Hellingly, East Sussex
Strong regal coloured hanging lanterns look fabulous and dramatic at the Sussex Barn.
Crisp white paper lanterns contrast the beams whilst the icicle style fairy lights hung in amongst the lantern canopy draw the eye upwards and add a delicate sparkle to this Sussex wedding venue.
Hanging lanterns at varying heights from exposed wooden beams complements the natural atmosphere at a barn wedding whilst the tulle wrapped around the lower beams is a nod to the more traditional aspects of a big day.
Now you have your venue, it's time to add a personal touch, to make it yours!
There are many simple ways to personalise your day.
Chalkboards are a great way to add personalisation. You can use them for directions for your guests, quirky messages or even a run of the day.
If if you opt for a run of the day you will need something quite large so our 4ft chalkboard is great for this.
Try being as quirky as possible with your messages and signage like:

- Let there be cake! - Cake cutting
These signs are great although they are not personalised to you individually, they can be chosen to pick out your character.

There are many items you can order that can be bespoke to you. Personally these are my favourite.
These can be used on floors, glassware, doors, mirrors and much more. These can be personalised in style, detail and colour.
These are great as a welcome to your guests. A great way to add subtle personalisation to your ceremony or as a lovely surprise to a relative on the day, like the father of the bride.

Q. If you could jump on a plane and fly anywhere tomorrow – where would you go?
Nicci: America!! I would have a car waiting so I could travel all over !
Nick: Take a road trip across California on a Harley Davidson to Mexico then when in Mexico buy a vintage VW bug and drive it back to England.
Q. What does your favourite Sunday involve?
Nicci: Cooked breakfast, a chilled morning but on a nice day on the beach with a camera in hand!
Nick: Normally editing images or work related creativity and eating plus a glass of red wine now and then !!!
Q. What TV show are you totally addicted to?
Nicci: When there is time I do enjoy a good film, but with work and children time its limited.
Nick: Tv whats that ? – Breaking Bad was brilliant – A must view & Californication too

Q. What do you enjoy most best about what you do?
We see photography in every element of our life were always on the lookout for that image that tells the story in a different way.
We love seeing our Bride & Grooms faces when they see the images from their wedding for the first time…. It’s an emotional moment and tissues are normally needed!
We’ve met some wonderful people through doing this job and were excited about those we’ve yet to meet on this amazing journey.
Q. How did you get into wedding photography?
Nick & I had been discussing wedding photography for a while then a friend of mine sacked her photographer the day before her wedding and she was unhappy – she called me in tears and after a chat and a quick thought we were on our way to Surrey to cover her big day…. We totally loved every minute and realised that all the positive feedback we had from the experience that this was something we had to pursue further.. The rest is history ..
Q. Do you have a favourite piece of advice for couples for their wedding day?
Advice we always give our couples is – to make sure they get “time out” together on their big day to relax, enjoy and let us create some beautiful memories …
It was an absolute pleasure to work with the amazing Amanda & Matt on their big day. we first met this lovely couple in our showroom in the summer. So weird to be talking Christmas in the summer! The colour scheme of red and ivory worked so well with the theme. When I discovered the venue, I knew their day would be perfect. The wedding was to take place at the gorgeous Upwaltham Barns.
The team working closely with the talented Emma at Wild & Green Florists decorated the ceremony room with cream lanterns, complimented by fresh rose petals. Emma created a stunning floral heart to hang outside the ceremony room as guests arrived. Silver storm lanterns lined the steps to the entrance to the ceremony room. Inside on the ceremony table there was a hurricane vase with led candle supplied by us, sat on a wood slice with a garland of flowers including red roses.
The reception room was dressed with Christmas hessian bunting, above the dance floor we hung a mixture of red and white lanterns. The centrepieces were hurricane vases as per the ceremony room.
The Christmas theme continued with mistletoe wreath hung above the happy couples chairs at the top table.
We supplied our stunning 5 foot love letters, the couple requested multi coloured bulbs which looked fabulous! A different twist to the normal white.
Guests placed their cards in our stunning red postal box for safe keeping.
We would like to say a big thank you to firstly the stunning couple Mr & Mrs Cooper for choosing us. The wonderful and talented Emma from Wild & Green. The amazing Upwaltham Barns including the team from
